Crossing the Line — Pets in divorce

Indiana law does not specifically address pet "custody" in a divorce. Ownership is determined similar to other property. Though a law enacted last year permits Hoosier judges to include a prohibition on harming pets in protection orders, which often are issued following domestic violence incidents.
